Max Verstappen, a three-time world champion, emerged victorious at the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday thanks to a bold early move and an aggressive strategy by Red Bull, denying McLaren’s Lando Norris the win and extending his lead in the world championship standings.
Lewis Hamilton, a seven-time former champion, secured third place at the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit, marking his return to the podium for the first time since last season in Mexico.
Despite the close competition in recent seasons, Verstappen continues to excel under pressure, claiming his 61st career win, seventh of the season, and fourth victory at the familiar track where he made his F1 debut in 2016.
This win puts him closer to a fourth consecutive title, with races in Austria and Silverstone on the horizon.
“I think taking the lead early on lap two was crucial in securing the victory today. We executed our aggressive strategy well and I’m thrilled with the win,” said Verstappen, 26.
In a surprising start, George Russell in the other Mercedes shot up to fourth place, overshadowing the pole-sitter Norris and challenging Verstappen for the lead.
Hamilton, destined for Ferrari next season, expressed his disappointment at a poor start but commended his team for their hard work in pit stops and strategy.
Verstappen ultimately seized the lead from Russell, solidifying his position at the front of the pack and crossing the finish line first with a comfortable lead.
The race featured strategic pit stops and battles for position, with Verstappen maintaining his lead and securing the win, while Norris and Hamilton fought for podium positions.

As the race concluded, Verstappen held off Norris’ late charge and clinched his third consecutive victory at the Spanish Grand Prix.
Verstappen now leads the championship with a significant advantage over Norris, with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc trailing in third place.
