A tragic incident occurred at an Arkansas grocery store on Friday morning where a gunman opened fire, resulting in the death of a fourth person, as confirmed by Arkansas State Police.
The individuals who lost their lives in the shooting have been identified as 23-year-old Callie Weems, 50-year-old Roy Sturgis, 62-year-old Shirley Taylor, and 81-year-old Ellen Shrum.
Additionally, five women and two men were injured in the shooting at the Mad Butcher grocery store in Fordyce, with ages ranging from 20 to 65. Some of the wounded individuals are still receiving medical treatment, with one woman in critical condition, according to State Police.
During a shootout with the suspect, two police officers were also injured. Fordyce Police Officer James Johnson, 31, has been discharged from a Little Rock hospital, while Stuttgart Police Officer John Hudson, 24, sustained minor injuries.
Following the incident, the suspect received medical treatment for injuries sustained during the shootout and was then taken into custody at Ouachita County Detention Center. The 44-year-old man has been charged with four counts of capital murder, with additional charges pending, as per officials.
Authorities have not disclosed a possible motive behind the violent act.
