“Inside Out 2,” the animated story of teenage emotions, continued its successful run at the North American box office in its second week, according to Exhibitor Relations. The highly anticipated sequel from Disney and Pixar is dominating the market, representing about 68% of the total domestic box office this weekend,” said analyst David A. Gross of Franchise Entertainment Research.
The movie brought in an estimated $100 million, adding to the $155 million it earned last week. It follows the story of a 13-year-old girl named Riley navigating new emotions as she starts high school inside her mind. Characters like Envy and Anxiety join the existing emotions in her head, voiced by actors like Amy Poehler and Phyllis Smith.
In second place was the action comedy “Bad Boys: Ride or Die,” pulling in another $18.8 million for a total of $147 million over three weeks. Will Smith’s performance in the film is seen as a comeback after a controversial incident at the Academy Awards in 2022.
“The Bikeriders,” starring Austin Butler and Jodie Comer, made its debut in third place with an estimated $10 million in earnings. Reviews were positive, but the opening was described as “good-not-great” by Gross.
Other films in the top 10 include “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” “The Garfield Movie,” “If,” “The Exorcism,” “Thelma,” “The Watchers,” and “Ghost: Rite Here Rite Now,” earning various amounts in revenue.
