The Royal Family announced on Monday that Princess Anne suffered a concussion during an incident at her residence in Gloucestershire on Sunday.
“The Princess Royal sustained minor injuries and concussion in an incident on the Gatcombe Park estate yesterday evening. She is currently being observed at Southmead Hospital, Bristol, as a precaution and is expected to recover fully and quickly,” the statement from the Royal Family read on Monday. “The King has been informed and sends his love and well-wishes to The Princess for a speedy recovery.”
The Royal Family’s handling of medical issues has been under scrutiny since Princess Kate disclosed in March that she was undergoing cancer treatment. This revelation came after her abdominal surgery in January, which led to the discovery of the cancer.
Anne is the sister of King Charles III and the only daughter of Queen Elizabeth II. She was born third in line to the British throne.
According to CBC, Anne had plans to visit Canada on July 1 to pay her respects at the National War Memorial and the tomb of the unknown soldier. It is unclear if she will still make the trip.
Anne is known for her passion for equestrianism, having competed in the 1976 Montreal Olympics as part of the British team, making her the first Royal Family member to do so.
