2024-25 Stanley Cup odds: Panthers, Stars co-favorites to take home the title
The Florida Panthers closed out the Edmonton Oilers in seven games after letting a 3-0 lead slip away, setting the stage for what was an exciting finish to a great season.
When looking at 2025 Stanley Cup odds at BetMGM Sportsbook, it should come as no surprise that the defending champs and the West winners are near the top of the board.
Florida is favored at +900, according to BetMGM, and next up is a tie between two West teams in Dallas (+1000) and Colorado (+1000). Dallas took Edmonton to six games in the Western Conference Finals and appear well-positioned to make its first Stanley Cup Final appearance since the 2019-2020 season. Colorado won the Stanley Cup in 2022 and remains a juggernaut starring Nathan MacKinnon.
Flipping back to the East, it’s the Hurricanes (+1100) and Rangers (+1300), another couple of playoff teams looking to take the next step. There’s also 2023 champion Vegas, which expects to put together another strong season in 2024-25. Be sure to shop around at all the top NHL betting sites to get the best possible odds for your pick.
The Panthers have made two consecutive Stanley Cup Final appearances and are now champions of the hockey world. With its core largely returning, it’s hard to count Florida out as a championship favorite.
Florida led the NHL with 74 penalty kills, with defensemen Aaron Ekblad and Brandon Montour forming a stellar tandem ahead of goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky. Bobrovsky finished the 2023-2024 regular season with a 2.33 GAA.
And that says nothing of the Panthers’ scoring prowess. Wingers Sam Reinhart and Carter Verhaeghe both ranked in the league top 25 for scoring, combining for 91 goals in the regular season. Both will return for next season’s campaign.
The Edmonton Oilers clawed back from an 0-3 deficit to force Game 7 of the Stanley Cup, which says a ton about a group that looked dead in the water before Game 4.
We know what Edmonton brings to the table with Conn Smythy Trophy winner Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, although questions about goaltending will always be there with Stuart Skinner, even though he played solid at times throughout the Cup Final.
The bottom line is that if this group retools around McDavid and Draisaitl, there is always a chance for Edmonton to make it back to this stage.
The Vegas Golden Knights are +1200 at BetMGM but can be found as long as +1600 at some NHL betting sites, putting them in long shot territory for some.
This group have been eliminated in the opening round by the Dallas Stars, but there’s no reason they shouldn’t be in the conversation as Stanley Cup contenders next season.
One key, however, will be the ability for Vegas to re-sign veteran Jonathan Marchessault, whose six-year, $30 million deal expires at season’s end. Should Marchessault find himself back in a Golden Knights jersey for the foreseeable future, the future will look Vegas-skyline bright for the team’s Stanley Cup hopes.
