Tens of millions of Miniverse “Make It Mini” children’s toys are being recalled.
Kids use the Miniverse Make It Mini Sets to create miniature items out of resin, which is then solidified with a UV light.
However, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is cautioning parents and children about the harmful effects of the liquid resin.
According to the CPSC’s recall notice, the liquid resin can cause skin, eye, and respiratory irritation or sensitization when inhaled, touched, or ingested by both children and adults.
The resins contain acrylates derived from acrylic acid at levels that are prohibited in children’s products. Once the resins cure, they no longer pose a hazard.
Miniverse Make It Mini Sets with Liquid Resins are being recalled
Approximately 21 million Make It Mini sets are being recalled in the U.S., with an additional 1 million recalled in Canada.
The parent company, MGA Entertainment, has received 26 reported incidents related to its products, including reports of skin burns and irritation, as well as respiratory irritation. One report mentioned that a customer’s asthma was triggered.
The recalled sets include Make It Mini Appliances, as well as all models and series of Make It Mini Food and Make It Mini Lifestyle.
The CPSC is advising consumers to cease using the products immediately and offers a refund or replacement for the product or unused resin.
