BILLINGS — Dewaine Lee and Jose Cervantes are eagerly anticipating the upcoming moment when their rented charter buses are fueled up and ready to hit the road for a special occasion later this year.
The occasion? A unique season opener for their respective Texas high school football teams.
After discussions earlier this year, Lee’s Strawn and Cervantes’ Milford from Texas have confirmed their participation in a 6-Man football doubleheader against Custer-Hysham-Melstone and Highwood in Montana. The game, which has now overcome logistical challenges, is set to take place on August 31 at Rocky Mountain College, bringing together teams from more than 1,000 miles apart for a truly unique high school football event in Big Sky Country.

With sufficient funding in place, both teams are gearing up for the long journey to Montana and are eagerly awaiting the kickoff of the historic event.
The Texas teams will also engage in sightseeing and enjoy the Montana hospitality before the games. The trip will culminate in the doubleheader at Rocky, with preparations being made to ensure a smooth and memorable experience for all involved.
While the focus is on competition, both teams are looking forward to the camaraderie and unique experience that this event will bring. If successful, similar endeavors in the future could be on the horizon.
