As America approaches its 250th anniversary in two years, there are already plans for monumental celebrations across the country. This year, Independence Day falls on a Thursday, and residents in southwest Montana have already planned big and small celebrations.
Butte will kick off its festivities on Wednesday night with the Big Bang Freedom Fest at Chester Steele Park, featuring food vendors and a concert by country music singer Rodney Atkins at the Original Mine. The night will conclude with fireworks sponsored by the Kenneally family and Town Pump Foundation.
The celebrations will continue on Thursday with a parade starting at 10 a.m. at the Butte Civic Center. This year’s grand marshals are Sgt. Steve Honer and his K-9 partner Blue from the Butte-Silver Bow Police Department.
Other towns in southwest Montana, such as Anaconda, Boulder, Deer Lodge, Dillon, Ennis, Georgetown Lake, Virginia City, and Wisdom, also have their own patriotic celebrations planned for Independence Day.
Each town has unique events and activities scheduled, including parades, concerts, rodeos, and fireworks displays. From Anaconda’s Main Street parade to Wisdom’s all-day celebration, there will be plenty of red, white, and blue festivities to enjoy.
