A Nottoway County, Virginia, woman who has multiple disabilities says she was classified as a fugitive, arrested and handcuffed in her wheelchair after missing summonses for jury duty as a result of her medical conditions.
She was then made to appear in a courthouse that is not ADA compliant and lacks legally required handicapped accommodations, she said.

Crystal Sharpe, 41, of Blackstone, Virginia, said the ordeal started in September, when she was issued a jury questionnaire.
Sharpe has fibromyalgia and back issues, which require her to use a wheelchair. She said she received the questionnaire around the same time she was undergoing surgery to remove her gallbladder. She was in the hospital and was “very, very out of it,” she explained.
