Reports from various sources indicate that during a campaign event on Tuesday, President Joe Biden made light of falling asleep on the debate stage, attributing it to jet lag from recent travels.
President Biden, while meeting with donors, mentioned that his recent trips to Europe had left him exhausted and under additional pressure before the debate. He humorously admitted, “I wasn’t very smart. I decided to travel around the world a couple of times.”
According to The Associated Press, President Biden acknowledged not heeding his staff’s advice on the toll of extensive travel and quipped about nodding off during the debate against former President Donald Trump.
Despite growing concerns among donors and lawmakers, the White House affirmed that President Biden has no plans to withdraw as the Democratic nominee for the 2024 election. Scheduled meetings with Democratic governors, a press conference, and an interview with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos were announced for Friday.
President Biden’s campaign revealed raising $264 million in the second quarter alongside the DNC and reiterated his commitment to staying in the race.
