HELENA, Mont. – The Headwaters Hub in Montana, known as the state’s tech hub, has recently secured $41 million for future growth.
The Headwaters Hub focuses on advancing photonic sensing systems, which are utilized in various applications such as cell phone cameras, car sensors, and agricultural or military devices.

This funding of over $40 million is part of the Chips and Sciences Act, a congressional initiative aiming to promote technological progress in the United States and support rural communities.

Dr. Tim Vanhekken, associated with Headwaters Hub, highlighted Montana’s strength in optics and photonics technologies and expressed optimism about leveraging this funding to enhance the state’s capabilities in this sector.

The funding will contribute to various advancements, including enhancing educational opportunities at universities, establishing final stage testing facilities, investing in agricultural technology for crop anomaly detection, and developing military technology for object detection.
