Commissioned by Butte officials over a year ago, renowned folk artist Eric Dowdle embarked on a new project to create an original painting and puzzle of Butte, America.
With funding secured by the Butte-Silver Bow Chamber of Commerce and Butte Local Development Corp., the project became a reality.
The artist’s vision was unveiled on Tuesday night, receiving high praise from Stephanie Sorini, head of the B-SB Chamber.
“I can’t believe this day is here,” Sorini expressed. “We are over-the-top thrilled.”
Tom Cronnelly, a Chamber board member and a fan of Dowdle’s work, shared his admiration for the detailed puzzle.

“We were blown away at the amount of research he did,” Cronnelly remarked. “The puzzle is so detailed.”
While officials provided input on the puzzle’s content, the final decisions were left to Dowdle.
“It was all at his discretion,” Cronnelly added.
At the launch party, Chief Executive J.P. Gallagher expressed his excitement for the project, calling it a significant development for Butte.
“Bringing a talent like Eric to our community is a big deal,” Gallagher stated. “Butte, America — it’s a big, damn deal.”
The puzzle is available for $30 at the Chamber office at 1000 George St., and at the Berkeley Pit Viewing Stand, 350 Shields Ave. Shipping options are also offered, with proceeds benefiting both the Chamber and BLDC for future projects.
Sorini mentioned that the demand for the puzzle has been high, with expectations of selling out all units.
“The wait is over,” Sorini declared. “This is Butte through Eric’s eyes and his artwork captured its uniqueness.”
