The first-ever Last Chance Street Dance will be 5:30-10 p.m. Thursday in downtown Helena.
There will be food and dessert trucks, art vendors, balloon tying, ax throwing, and beer gardens. Downtown businesses will have their doors open late.
The dance is hosted by the Gold Bar, Helena BID, Gulch Distillers, and Old-Salt Co-Op and will be along the 300 and 400 blocks of Last Chance Gulch and run along Lawrence Street to Fuller Avenue.
Sponsors include Lehrkind’s Coca-Cola, Gusto Distributing, Diamond Construction, and M-T Glass.
“The idea was to create more and new events downtown,” Sarah Hamblock, co-owner of the Gold Bar, said, adding they were able to host an Alive at Five on a Wednesday last year. She said having that event on the street outside a bar had a different feel from the park.

Hamblock said they want to capitalize on the synergy from the recent opening at The Union restaurant at Last Chance Gulch and Lawrence Street.
She said people are back in town after the July 4 holiday and, with high temperatures on the way this week, are looking for something to do in the cooler evening hours.
“I think there will be a good turnout,” Hamblock said. “We have heard nothing but positive responses.”
She said there will be misting stations, free water, and plenty of shade.
Under the Bleachers and Ten Years Gone will perform at the intersection of Last Chance Gulch and Lawrence Street. The Tiernan Irish Dancers will also perform.
People are encouraged to bring their dancing shoes and a lawn chair and enjoy the summer in Helena.
