MISSOULA — The Grizzly Indoor Practice Facility at the University of Montana is nearing completion. Despite encountering some delays, progress has been steady over the summer, and the facility is set to be fully operational in a few weeks.
In early June, the turf was installed, along with the completion of the track and support buildings. The final step is inflating the dome.
“The bubble will be inflated in the next couple of weeks,” said UM athletic director Kent Haslam. “Then, interior work such as cutting exits and installing lights will commence.”
Following some delays after groundbreaking in April 2023, construction has picked up in the summer months and the project is now on track for completion.
The $10.2 million facility now has a maximum capacity of 2,100, a significant increase from the previous capacity of 300. It is expected to be ready by early August for the start of fall sports.
“We took our time to ensure everything is done right,” Haslam stated. “It will benefit football, soccer, track and field, softball, and the Missoula community at large.”
UM is looking forward to the advantages this new facility will provide on the field. “It’s an exciting addition that our student athletes and the community will benefit from,” said Haslam.
