BILLINGS — Temperatures continue to rise, with the possibility of reaching triple digits in some areas from Wednesday through Sunday. This also means an increased risk of fires.
A strong high-pressure ridge moving across the western U.S. will bring warmer and drier conditions for the remainder of the week, resulting in the hottest days of 2024 so far.
Temperatures are expected to peak in the 90s on Tuesday and Wednesday, climbing to the mid-90s to low 100s from Thursday to Sunday.
During the peak heat of the day, relative humidity will be in the teens. As monsoonal moisture is brought up from the southwest U.S., isolated, high-based thunderstorms are likely near the mountains this week.
Heading into the weekend, high-based thunderstorms may develop over a larger area, with the combination of heat, low humidity, and wind and lightning from the storms posing an increased risk of fires spreading.
