The Montana Free Press reported that Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen was involved in 22 lawsuits challenging policies, rules, and actions of the Biden administration. Based on Knudsen’s public statements and federal court records, he participated as a plaintiff, an amicus curiae, or an intervenor in federal and appellate courts across the country.
Knudsen joined the Texas Attorney General in arguing that the results of the 2020 Presidential election were fraudulent (this argument was rejected by the U.S. Supreme Court).
Knudsen and 17 other state Attorneys General signed a letter to President Biden requesting the release of all medical records of their state’s citizens, regardless of where the medical services were provided. The AGs sought access to private and personal records protected by the Federal HIPAA Law without the patient’s consent.
Knudsen also participated in legal challenges related to the cancellation of Keystone XL permits, vaccine mandates for healthcare workers, a bump-stock ban, and other issues.

Most recently, Knudsen and 10 other GOP state Attorneys General filed an amicus brief in federal court criticizing the U.S. Justice Department for its court-approved search of Trump’s Florida residence. The AGs accused the FBI of “ransacking” Trump’s home, where top secret documents related to national security were withheld by Trump.
Knudsen intervened in the medical treatment of a Republican patient for Covid at St. Peter’s Hospital in Helena. He deployed the MT Highway Patrol to intimidate the medical staff at the hospital.
Many of Knudsen’s actions appear to be politically motivated. Taxpayer-funded court cases driven by political motives should be avoided. Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen should not be re-elected.
