Euro 2024 semifinal odds, preview & picks: Best bets for England vs. Netherlands odds on Wednesday
England entered the tournament as the odds-on favorite to win the competition but was down to second at +250 ahead of the semifinals following a string of unconvincing performances. They needed penalty kicks to get past Switzerland in the quarterfinal and were rescued by Jude Bellingham five minutes into stoppage time the round before.
On the other side is the Netherlands, which has +440 odds to win the competition. They’ve scored more goals than any of their remaining opponents, but haven’t looked solid in defense either. Luckily, they face a Three Lions club that appears more than willing to play a cagey affair.
Similar to France, England has not been anywhere near one of the four best teams at this tournament. Their reluctance to attack, questionable substitutions and dependence on late-game miracles have been extremely frustrating for arguably the most talented team at the tournament.
The Netherlands team doesn’t mind leaving itself stretched at the back if it means it can commit more bodies to the attack. They scored five goals in two knockout matches and regularly both score and concede lots of goals. That sets up an interesting stylistic showdown between an England team which is often hesitant to come out of its shell.
England manager Gareth Southgate will not play on the front foot unless he is coerced into doing so. The Netherlands’ commitment to sending bodies forward but also to leaving itself vulnerable in defense leads us to believe that this will be a back-and-forth match that is ultimately decided on penalties.
There are multiple ways to bet such a situation, beginning with looking for value with a draw at a strong +190 price. If you want to play it somewhat safer in this low-scoring affair, you can go under 2.5 goals but be prepared to pay a hefty price for it at around -190.
