In Billings, Montana, Daylis Stadium has a rich history as a hub of excitement in the city’s sports scene. Since 1929, the stadium has hosted various high school sports events and the Big Sky State Games.
Recently, Billings Public Schools held an open meeting and stadium tour to gather input on the future of Daylis Stadium. They also presented a $62 million proposal to renovate the aging facility.
During the tour led by SD2 Director of Athletics and Activities Mark Sulser, attendees saw the deteriorating conditions of the stadium, including cracked concrete bleachers, lack of accessibility for those with disabilities, and poor locker room conditions.
The proposed renovation plan aims to address these issues by adding a parking garage, expanding locker rooms, and improving the track for potential postseason events. However, funding remains a challenge, and the project aims to minimize disruptions to students, coaches, and fans during construction.
Community members, such as Pioneer Park Task Force Chairperson Anna O’Donnell, express concerns about parking and being good neighbors to the surrounding area.
Public input is crucial in finding a solution, with another meeting scheduled at the Lincoln Center to discuss options for renovating or building a new facility. More information on the meetings can be found here.
