The Detroit Lions are honoring wide receiver Calvin Johnson by adding him to the Pride of the Lions, a group that celebrates the greatest players in franchise history. Johnson will be the 21st member of this esteemed group and will be recognized in a ceremony at halftime of the Lions’ game against the Seattle Seahawks on Sept. 30. Johnson, who played for the Lions from 2007-2015, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021. Despite some financial issues following his retirement, Johnson and the Lions have since reconciled. Detroit Lions’ team president and CEO, Rod Wood, expressed his excitement about adding Johnson to the Pride of the Lions, stating, “His commitment to the field and to Detroit are legendary, and this honor is well-deserved. We are proud to forever honor him inside Ford Field as a Detroit Lion.” Johnson was the second overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft by the Lions and went on to become the franchise leader in receptions (731), receiving yards (11,619), and receiving touchdowns (83). He was named a first-team All-Pro three consecutive seasons from 2011 to 2013 and set the NFL single-season receiving yardage record in 2012 with 1,964 yards. A member of the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team, Johnson’s impact on the Lions franchise and the NFL as a whole is undeniable. –Field Level Media
