The thwap of a ball hitting a paddle, then the ping of it on the court. The screams of victory, the cries of defeat.
These are the very specific soundtrack of pickleball, America’s fastest growing sport and all the rage at Bozeman’s Bogert Park. Next to the pool and the pavilion sit seven, fenced off courts, where pickleballers gather daily.
In the two years since the courts opened, they’ve gotten heavy usage from Bozeman pickleballers, who organize tournaments, show-up to “paddle up” into games and play from early in the morning until late at night.
“You see empty tennis courts all over the place,” said Jason Frounfelker, who plays at the courts frequently. “But when you drive by Bogert, there’s a pretty good chance there’s at least one court being played on, all day long.”
