NFL Hall of Famer says he was unjustly handcuffed and ‘humiliated’ on a flight
DENVER (AP) — Pro Football Hall of Famer Terrell Davis says he was “humiliated” after being unjustly handcuffed and removed from a United Airlines flight over the weekend. Davis said Monday on Instagram that he had tapped a flight attendant on the arm prompting the employee to shout “don’t hit me” and hurry toward the front of the plane. Davis says when the flight landed, law-enforcement boarded, put Davis in handcuffs and removed him from the flight. Law enforcement later apologized and released Davis. United Airlines said it has removed the flight attendant from duty while the incident is being reviewed.
Paul Skenes in spotlight, starting All-Star Game after just 11 major league games
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Paul Skenes was the center of attention in a ballpark filled with six dozen All-Stars. The 22-year-old Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher with 11 major league appearances will start for the National League on Tuesday night, when Baltimore’s Corbin Burnes starts for the American League. Skenes will have the fewest big league games of any player in the showcase’s 91-year history. His splinker, a hybrid that sinks like a splitter with the velocity of a sinker, has batters muttering. He is 6-0 with a 1.90 ERA since his May 11 debut, striking out 89 and walking 13 in 66 1/3 innings.
T-shirts with image of Trump raising his fist after assassination attempt are for sale in China
BANGKOK (AP) — Images of the moment have already been splashed across the world’s front pages and papered many corners of the internet. They show former President Donald Trump, ear bleeding, with his right hand clenched in a fist above the Secret Service agents surrounding him after he was shot. And now they’re available on T-shirts for as little as $4 on China’s e-commerce platforms. Over the weekend, Chinese retailers leapt into action on the country’s two biggest e-commerce platforms to profit from the images after an assassination attempt on Trump at a rally on Saturday. The shirts used a variety of photos that captured the moment, including one of the most indelible made by Associated Press photographer Evan Vucci.
Judge removed from long-running gang and racketeering case against rapper Young Thug and others
ATLANTA (AP) — The judge who has been overseeing the long-running racketeering and gang prosecution against Young Thug and others in Atlanta has been removed from the case after two defendants filed motions seeking his recusal citing a meeting the judge held with prosecutors and a state witness. Fulton County Superior Court Chief Judge Ural Glanville had put the case on hold two weeks ago to give another judge a chance to review the recusal motions. Judge Rachel Krause on Monday granted those motions and ordered the clerk of court to assign the case to a different judge.

Who is carrying the Olympic torch through Paris? A BTS star, a garbage collector and more
PARIS (AP) — Hundreds of people have carried the Olympic torch through the French capital for two days of celebrations before the Summer Games kick off at the end of the month. They included BTS star Jin, a runner from Central African Republic, former World Cup and Olympic medal winners and people known for their volunteer or community work. About 10,000 people were chosen to carry the flame across France to the Games’ opening ceremony on July 26. One onlooker says the relay is “a bit of joy after the disastrous weeks we’ve had” around the chaotic recent elections in France.
In a world of moving pictures, photographs capture indelible moments in Trump assassination attempt
Video of Saturday’s assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump was available almost instantly, but still photographs had a potent story to tell as well. One image, showing a bloodied Trump, surrounded by Secret Service agents and backed by an American flag, appeared to instantly take on iconic status, and carry political implications. It was taken by Evan Vucci, an Associated Press photographer who played a hunch to put himself directly in place to shoot the photograph. Another photo, taken by Doug Mills of The New York Times, appears to show evidence of one of the bullets whizzing by Trump’s head.
A decade after deadly MH17 crash, the father of one victim is still waiting for Russia to say sorry
HILVERSUM, Netherlands (AP) — Quinn Schansman dreamed of becoming the youngest-ever CEO of an American company. A decade ago, he’d just finished the first year of an international business degree in Amsterdam as a first step toward that lofty goal. But the 18-year-old dual Dutch American citizen’s future — whatever it may have held — was cruelly cut short when he was one of the 298 people killed as a Soviet-era Buk surface-to-air rocket launched from territory in eastern Ukraine controlled by pro-Russian rebels destroyed Malaysia Airlines flight 17. Quinn’s father is still waiting for Russia to say it’s sorry.
