Four years ago, during an interview on Megyn Kelly’s podcast, Sen. JD Vance mentioned the importance of having a strong female voice guiding him, a role fulfilled by his wife Usha Vance.
Usha, whom JD described as “brilliant” and “way more accomplished” than himself, is a potential future second lady of the United States and a mother of three.
She was raised in Southern California by Indian immigrant parents, with her mother being a marine molecular biologist and her father an engineer. She excelled academically, earning a history degree from Yale University and a philosophy master’s from the University of Cambridge.
Usha and JD first met at Yale University and subsequently got married in 2014. They have three young children together.
Usha is an accomplished lawyer with prestigious clerkships, including working for Supreme Court Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. and Supreme Court Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh.
Despite their political differences—Usha previously a Democrat and JD a vocal critic turned supporter of former President Donald Trump—the couple navigates their roles in the political sphere with mutual respect and support.
