KALISPELL — The Billings Scarlets took down host Kalispell twice in an American Legion baseball doubleheader Wednesday, defeating the Lakers by margins of 6-0 and 4-2.
Billings opened its strong day with by throwing a combined two-hitter through starter Paxton Prill (six innings, two hits allowed, five strikeouts) and reliever Colter Wilson (one inning, two strikeouts), which kept Kalispell at bay while the Scarlets’ bats got to work.
It took a bit for Billings’ bats to wake up as it only held a 1-0 lead going into the sixth inning, but a two-run sixth and three-run seventh sealed the deal for the Scarlets’ comfortable shutout victory.
Kyler Northrop had two RBIs off of three hits (two doubles) while Brady Randall added two RBIs of his own to help pace the Billings offense.
In Game 2, however, it was the Lakers who got out to a lead first as they led 1-0 after two innings and 2-1 after three, but Billings’ offense got consistent as it scored exactly one run in the third, fourth, fifth and seventh innings to get the job done and pull off the daily sweep.
