Former President Donald Trump is set to accept the Republican nomination for president on Thursday, making it his third consecutive nomination by the party.
This milestone will make Trump the first major party candidate since Franklin D. Roosevelt to receive three consecutive party nominations. Richard Nixon also received three Republican nominations, but not in consecutive order.
Trump will deliver his acceptance speech to conclude the Republican National Convention this week. This speech will be his first public address since surviving an assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.
In an interview with the New York Post, Trump mentioned that the attempt on his life forced him to change his acceptance speech.

“I had a prepared speech that was very tough, really good, criticizing the corrupt administration,” he said. “But I decided to discard it.”
Trump expressed his desire to bring unity to the country, although he acknowledged the challenges due to the deep divisions among people.
It remains uncertain how much Trump will address Biden in his speech on Thursday, following their recent phone conversation after the assassination attempt. President Biden, who tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, has faced calls from Democratic lawmakers to withdraw from the race.
Throughout the convention, Trump has been present for all three nights, sporting a large white bandage over his right ear, claiming he was shot in the ear.
Some attendees at the RNC have also been seen wearing white bandages over their ears in solidarity with Trump.
