Former President Donald Trump is set to accept the Republican nomination for president on Thursday, making it his third consecutive nomination by the party.
Trump will be the first major party candidate since Franklin D. Roosevelt to accept three consecutive nominations. Richard Nixon also received three Republican nominations, but not in a row.
His acceptance speech will conclude this week’s Republican National Convention and will be his first public address since the recent assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania.
In an interview with the New York Post, Trump mentioned that the incident led him to change his speech.

“I had all prepared an extremely tough speech, really good, all about the corrupt, horrible administration,” he said. “But I threw it away.”
Trump also expressed his desire to unite the country, although he expressed doubts about its possibility due to the current division among people.
It remains uncertain how much Trump will target Biden in his speech after their recent phone conversation following the assassination attempt. President Biden, who tested positive for COVID-19, is facing pressure from some Democratic lawmakers to withdraw from the race.
Throughout the convention, Trump has been present every night, sporting a large white bandage over his right ear, referencing the injury he sustained.
Additionally, some attendees at the RNC have been seen wearing white bandages on their ears in solidarity with Trump.
