The Billings Mustangs were unable to turn their win Wednesday against the Idaho Falls Chukars into a streak as the hosts were defeated 11-6 in a weather-delayed game Thursday night at Dehler Park.
The Mustangs’ (23-28 overall, 1-2 second half) matchup against the Chukars (22-29, 2-1) on Thursday was delayed from its original 6:35 p.m. start due to weather. And while Billings tried rallying late in the night, it was unable to make it two straight victories over Idaho Falls.
The Chukars stormed out to an 8-1 lead out of the gates, leading by as much as 11-3 in the sixth inning before the Mustangs tried chipping away at the deficit with runs in the sixth, seventh and ninth frames.
Billings’ Gabe Wurtz did his best to spark a comeback, tallying three RBIs on the night, whereas Connor Denning went 3 for 4 at the plate. But the Mustangs’ early deficit proved to be too much to overcome as Idaho Falls took the lead in the six-game series.
