The leader in home runs in the Pioneer League provided the Missoula PaddleHeads with the boost they needed on Friday, as they struggled to create separation with the Glacier Range Riders.
After nine innings, the teams were tied at 6-6, leading to the game being decided through the league’s unique home-run derby knockout format at Ogren-Allegiance Park. Chad Castillo was unable to hit a home run for the Range Riders in the first knockout round, while Adam Fogel seized the opportunity for the PaddleHeads by hitting the first pitch well over the left field wall to win the game.
This was Missoula’s first knockout victory of the season, improving their league-best record to 41-11 and extending their winning streak to six games.
Missoula and Glacier will face off again on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon in Zootown.
