DAVENPORT, Iowa — Emily Delleman’s journey to becoming an Olympian began under the Iowa-Illinois’ I-74 bridge.
The Davenport Central High School alumna will represent the United States at the Paris Olympics later this month after her Women’s Quadruple Sculls boat secured first place at the Final Qualification Regatta in Switzerland in May.
This is the latest and most notable achievement in Delleman’s successful rowing career, which began at the Y Quad Cities Rowing Club in Moline, Illinois. She was a two-time All-American at Stanford University and has been a part of seven national teams.
“I feel fortunate to have been part of an exceptional program at the YMCA in Moline,” Delleman said. “Dr. Peter Sharis created an amazing program while I was there, and I was lucky to row alongside his daughters Elizabeth and Caroline, who were highly skilled athletes. Dr. Sharis, a Harvard rower and Olympian, was an exceptional coach.”
