Retiring after signing with the Miami Dolphins as a free agent just four months ago, two-time Pro Bowl linebacker Shaquil Barrett announced his decision on Saturday. In an Instagram post, the 31-year-old expressed gratitude for his football career and shared his plans to focus on his family. Barrett mentioned that he had been contemplating retirement for some time, but the tragic loss of his 2-year-old daughter in April solidified his decision. Despite going undrafted in 2014, Barrett had a successful NFL career, making two Pro Bowls, playing in 131 games, and accumulating impressive stats. His standout seasons included leading the NFL in sacks in 2019 and earning another Pro Bowl nod in 2021. Barrett, who won two Super Bowls with different teams, finished his final season with the Buccaneers in 2023 before signing a one-year deal with the Dolphins. –Field Level Media
