That’s right, the NASCAR Cup Series will race once again on Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s iconic 2.5-mile oval this Sunday for the first time since 2020 in the Brickyard 400.
Below, FrontPageBets takes a look at the drivers to watch in the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday afternoon (2:30 p.m.; NBC).
2024 Brickyard 400 odds for Indianapolis Motor Speedway
Racing every year at the Brickyard since the inaugural Cup race on Aug. 6, 1994, the Cup Series took a three-year break from the rectangular oval at IMS to compete on its road course. Now, it’s back to four corners of superspeedway racing.
And with just five regular-season races to go before the playoffs, not only will the Brickyard 400 be a must-see, it’s a must-win for any driver who doesn’t have a victory yet this season to help ensure their postseason slot. Keselowski, the driver of the No. 6 RFK Racing Ford, has one career Cup win at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, coming in 2018.
For his career there, he’s also finished in the top-10 six times, including three top-5s in 11 starts at the 2.5-mile rectangular oval.
Keselowski excels at superspeedways 2 miles or longer, racking up 10 of his 36 career wins on tracks that distance.
Byron, driver of the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevy, has three victories this season on three different types of tracks: Superspeedway (Daytona), road course (The Circuit of the Americas) and short track (Martinsville).
He’s never raced on the 2.5-mile IMS oval in a Cup Series event, but he did win an Xfinity race there in 2017.
Busch, the driver of the No. 8 Richard Childress Racing Chevy, has yet to win this season, and could very well miss making the playoffs.
But the Brickyard could be just what the doctor ordered, as he drove to back-to-back wins in 2015 and 2016 and has three poles to his credit.
In 16 career Cup starts at the 2.5-mile oval, Busch has 12 top-10 finishes, including five top-5s.
