Richard Simmons’ staff has shared the social media update that the famous fitness instructor had prepared before his passing on July 13.
“Hello everyone,” the staff members posted on X and Facebook on Saturday, July 20. “Richard worked tirelessly on his posts for all of you. He had numerous ideas and would plan in advance… revisiting each one, making adjustments until it was just right before posting.”
They continued: “On weekends, he would typically share a photo with a simple caption. He always selected the photos and wrote the captions for the upcoming weekend by Friday. So we have the post Richard intended to share with you the previous Sunday. We thought you might like to see it.”
In the post, Richard is pictured in a NASA astronaut jumpsuit. The staff mentioned, “This is the post Richard had in store for you for Sunday, July 14, 2024: ‘Let me fly you to the moon so we can gaze among the stars. Love, Richard.’”

Simmons’ housekeeper discovered him unresponsive in his Los Angeles residence on the morning of July 13, and emergency responders pronounced him dead, according to TMZ. Although the cause of death has not been disclosed, law enforcement sources informed TMZ that they suspect it was a natural passing. The site also mentioned that Simmons declined medical attention following a fall in his bathroom on the eve of his death, which coincided with his 76th birthday.
The television personality was laid to rest at the Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park and Mortuary in Los Angeles on Friday, July 19, as per TMZ.
“Our beloved Dicky was laid to rest this morning surrounded by only family and closest friends,” stated Lenny, Simmons’ brother, to People on Friday in a statement provided through a publicist. “We pray for your continued love and support during this very difficult time.”
