Utah State cornerback Andre Seldon Jr. passed away due to a suspected drowning at a Utah reservoir on Saturday. He was 22 years old. According to the Cache County Sheriff’s Office, the search for Seldon began on Saturday afternoon at Porcupine Reservoir after he was observed diving from cliffs and not coming back up. Utah State officials confirmed that he was discovered at 9:05 p.m. MT by the Utah Department of Public Safety dive team. Seldon had recently transferred to Utah State after recording 96 tackles and two interceptions over two seasons at New Mexico State. He had played under Nate Dreiling, who is currently serving as Utah State’s interim head coach and defensive coordinator. In a statement released by the school, Dreiling expressed his sorrow, saying, “Our football program is heartbroken to have to endure the loss of one of our own. Having had a previous relationship with Andre during our time together at New Mexico State, I can tell you he was an incredible person and teammate. Our condolences and prayers go out to Andre’s family as we grieve with them over this tremendous loss.” Seldon had spent two seasons at Michigan before joining New Mexico State. –Field Level Media
