Vice President Kamala Harris is gaining endorsements from prominent Democrats following President Joe Biden’s decision not to seek reelection.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who has been asked about his presidential ambitions, expressed full support for Harris.
“With our democracy at stake and our future on the line, no one is better suited to stand against Donald Trump’s dark vision and lead our country in a positive direction than America’s Vice President, @KamalaHarris,” Newsom stated on X.
Newsom was not the only prominent governor to endorse Harris. Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, a potential VP candidate, stated that Harris is prepared to be president.
“Kamala Harris is a patriotic figure deserving of our backing, and she will carry on the legacy of past Americans in safeguarding our union,” he remarked.

Although Harris has not yet secured the Democratic nomination, she still needs to gather support from the majority of delegates at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago next month.
As of Sunday, no other candidate had announced opposition to Harris for the party’s nomination. However, Scripps News discovered that West Virginia Independent Sen. Joe Manchin is contemplating switching his party affiliation back to Democrat to potentially challenge Harris. It is uncertain if Manchin would receive widespread support like Harris.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg also expressed his support for Harris on Sunday.
