Vice President Kamala Harris is gaining endorsements from top Democrats following President Joe Biden’s decision to not seek reelection.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who has been asked about his presidential ambitions, expressed his full support for Harris.
“With our democracy at stake and our future on the line, no one is better to prosecute the case against Donald Trump’s dark vision and guide our country in a healthier direction than America’s Vice President, @KamalaHarris,” Newsom said on X.
Newsom was not the only prominent governor supporting Harris. Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, a potential pick for vice president, also endorsed Harris, stating that she is ready to be president.
“Kamala Harris is a patriot worthy of our support and she will continue the work of generations of Americans who came before us to protect our union,” he said.

Harris still needs to secure the majority of delegates at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago next month to lock up the Democratic nomination.
No other candidate had announced a challenge to Harris for the party’s nomination as of Sunday. However, there are speculations that West Virginia Independent Sen. Joe Manchin might switch his party affiliation back to Democrat to potentially challenge Harris.

Various members of the House of Representatives, including Rep. Adam Schiff, Rep. Maxine Waters, and Rep. Steny Hoyer, also endorsed Harris.
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg also announced his support for Harris on Sunday.
“I will do all that I can to help elect @KamalaHarris the next President of the United States,” he said.
