Donald Trump held his first campaign rally since surviving an assassination attempt last week, returning to Michigan with his new running mate.
Exactly a week after the July 13 shooting in Pennsylvania, Trump opened the rally by expressing gratitude for the support he received, saying, “thank you for your extraordinary outpouring of love and support.”
The crowd responded with chants of “Fight, fight, fight!” as Trump appeared with a bandage on his ear where he was injured.

Trump was joined by Ohio Sen. JD Vance at their first event together since becoming the GOP nominees. Vance emphasized his support for Trump, highlighting Trump’s dedication to workers.
Supporters lined the streets of Grand Rapids ahead of the rally, many wearing Trump merchandise. Mike Gaydos, who traveled from Indiana, expressed admiration for Trump’s bravery.

Security measures were heightened for the event, with police presence and stringent checks for attendees. Despite the tense atmosphere, supporters were eager to show their support for Trump.
Michigan is a crucial swing state for the upcoming election, with Vance’s selection aimed at appealing to Rust Belt voters. Democrats have historically dominated the state, but Republicans see an opportunity given Biden’s current isolation and internal divisions.
Grand Rapids, once a Republican stronghold, has shifted towards Democrats in recent years. It’s an area both campaigns are targeting to secure vital votes in the upcoming election.
