Vice President Kamala Harris is garnering endorsements from prominent Democrats in the wake of President Joe Biden’s decision not to run for reelection.
California Governor Gavin Newsom, who has been asked about his own presidential aspirations, expressed his full support for Harris.
“With our democracy in jeopardy and our future at stake, no one is better suited to challenge Donald Trump’s divisive agenda and lead our country in a positive direction than America’s Vice President, @KamalaHarris,” Newsom stated on X.
Newsom was joined by Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, who is also being discussed as a potential vice presidential candidate, in endorsing Harris as prepared for the presidency.
“Kamala Harris is a dedicated patriot deserving of our backing, and she will carry on the legacy of countless Americans who worked to uphold our nation,” he affirmed.

Although Harris has not yet secured the Democratic nomination, she will need to garner majority delegate support at the upcoming Democratic National Convention in Chicago next month.
As of Sunday, no other candidates had declared their intention to challenge Harris for the nomination. However, there is speculation that West Virginia Independent Senator Joe Manchin is contemplating reverting to the Democratic Party to potentially challenge Harris. It remains unclear if Manchin would garner widespread support like Harris.
