Reports indicate that the Houston Texans are adding running back Cam Akers to their roster. Akers had a workout with the Texans earlier on Sunday and is now poised to join his third NFL team. After playing over three seasons with the Los Angeles Rams, he was traded to the Minnesota Vikings last September. Akers, who is 25 years old, appeared in six games for the Vikings, rushing 38 times for 138 yards and scoring one touchdown. He also made 11 receptions for 70 yards. A second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Akers has participated in 36 NFL games (starting in 15), accumulating 1,581 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns while adding 38 catches for 320 yards and one receiving touchdown. Akers had to sit out most of the 2021 season due to a left Achilles tendon tear before training camp. He suffered the same injury in Week 9 of the previous season, cutting his time short with the Vikings. Earlier in the offseason, Houston acquired former Pro Bowl running back Joe Mixon from the Cincinnati Bengals. The Texans’ running back group also includes Dameon Pierce, who has rushed for 1,355 yards in his first two NFL seasons. –Field Level Media
