Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries simultaneously endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the Democratic nomination for president. The congressional leaders joined other prominent Democrats in supporting Harris after President Joe Biden announced he would not seek re-election, immediately endorsing Harris as his replacement.

With no other notable Democrats announcing a presidential bid and state delegations voicing support for Harris, the chances of her facing a serious challenge for the nomination are diminishing. Harris’ campaign reported receiving over $100 million in donations within 36 hours of Biden’s announcement.
While Jeffries and Schumer did not call for Biden to drop out of the race, many House and Senate colleagues urged him to do so. After initially resisting, President Biden yielded on Sunday following pressure from more than three dozen Congressional Democrats.
