Food safety officials are once again warning consumers across the U.S. about produce sold at large retailers that may be contaminated with listeria.
An alert issued by the Food and Drug Administration has expanded a recall for vegetables sold at Walmart and Aldi locations in over a dozen states.

The recall from Wiers Farm Inc. of Willard, Ohio, has been expanded to include green beans, peppers, and other vegetables that could potentially cause serious illness. The initial recall on July 12 was for cucumbers sold at major stores from the distributor.
The FDA mentioned that Wiers Farm is cooperating with the Ohio Department of Agriculture to investigate the incident that led to the extensive recall and to contain the contaminated vegetables.
A detailed list of locations where the vegetables were sold, as well as the types and how to identify the products included in the recall, can be found online on the health officials’ website. Customers are advised not to consume the affected produce.

Symptoms of listeria typically manifest within two weeks of consuming contaminated food, but can appear as early as the same day or as late as 10 weeks afterward. Mild symptoms may include fever, muscle aches, nausea, fatigue, vomiting, and diarrhea.
More severe cases may involve headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions. If you experience any of these symptoms, contact your healthcare provider immediately.
