Food safety officials are once again warning consumers across the U.S. about produce sold at large retailers that may be contaminated with listeria.
An alert issued by the Food and Drug Administration has expanded a recall for vegetables sold at Walmart and Aldi locations in over a dozen states.

The recall from Wiers Farm Inc. of Willard, Ohio, now includes green beans, peppers, and other vegetables that could pose a serious health risk. The original recall on July 12 was for cucumbers sold at major stores by the distributor.
The FDA stated that Wiers Farm is collaborating with the Ohio Department of Agriculture to investigate the cause of the widespread recall and to contain the contaminated vegetables.
A detailed list of locations where the vegetables were sold, the types of products included in the recall, and how to identify them, is available online from health officials, who are advising customers against consuming the affected produce.

Symptoms of listeria typically appear within two weeks of consuming contaminated food, but can manifest as early as the same day or as late as 10 weeks after. Mild symptoms may include fever, muscle aches, nausea, fatigue, vomiting, and diarrhea.
More severe cases may involve headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions. If you experience any of these symptoms, contact your healthcare provider immediately.
