Justin Timberlake’s attorney denies that the pop star was intoxicated when he was arrested for driving while intoxicated in New York’s Sag Harbor Village in June.
In a statement obtained by Court TV, lawyer Edward Burke, Jr. stated that Timberlake “should not have been arrested” and criticized the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office for making “significant errors” in the case.
In response, the DA’s Office acknowledged a “ministerial error in the original accusatory instrument.” They stated that an amended instrument was filed on July 2, 2024 to correct the error, with no changes to the facts of the case.

Timberlake’s arraignment is scheduled for Aug. 2, according to the DA’s Office. They stated, “We are prepared to argue the facts of this case in court, not through the media.”
However, Burke, Jr. expressed confidence that the charge will be dismissed.
On June 18, Timberlake was arrested in the early hours while driving a BMW for allegedly failing to stop at a stop sign and stay in his lane. Police reported at the time of the arrest that they determined Timberlake was driving under the influence.
A police report described Timberlake with bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and difficulty standing. They also noted a strong alcohol odor on his breath and poor performance on sobriety tests.
