Justin Timberlake’s attorney denies that the pop star was drunk at the time of his arrest for driving while intoxicated in New York’s Sag Harbor Village in June.
In a statement obtained by Court TV, lawyer Edward Burke, Jr. stated that Timberlake “should not have been arrested” and criticized the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office for making “significant errors” in the case.
In response, the DA’s Office acknowledged a “ministerial error in the original accusatory instrument.” They filed an amended instrument on July 2, 2024, correcting the error without changing the facts of the case.

Timberlake is set to be arraigned on Aug. 2, according to the DA’s Office.
The DA stated to Court TV, “We are prepared to dispute the facts of this case in court, rather than in the media.”
However, Burke, Jr. expressed confidence that the charge against Timberlake will be dropped.
Timberlake was arrested early in the morning on June 18 while driving a BMW, reportedly failing to stop at a stop sign and maintain his lane.
According to police statements at the time, it was found that Timberlake was driving under the influence.
A police report indicated that Timberlake had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and difficulty standing.

Police also noted a strong smell of alcohol on Timberlake’s breath and stated that he performed poorly on sobriety tests.
