Soft Landing Missoula’s United We Eat culinary program, which allows refugees and immigrants to share their recipes with the community, is now in its sixth year with a new headquarters at the Burns St.Community Center in Missoula’s Westside neighborhood. The collaboration with the North Missoula Community Development Corporation continues to provide a platform for these individuals.
Wasan, a refugee from Iraq who moved to Missoula in 2016, is one of the chefs preparing meals for the program. The week’s menu features quzi, a traditional Iraqi dish, as well as a vegetarian option of falafel balls and eggplant fries. Customers can also enjoy green hummus, a salad, and zarda, a traditional Iraqi rice pudding.
United We Eat’s “At Home” program serves about 5,000 meals a year, with 20 rotating chefs like Wasan contributing their culinary creations. The program not only allows these chefs to showcase their culture but also provides them with additional income.
Founded in 2016, Soft Landing Missoula was established in response to the Syrian civil war and has since provided support to refugees and immigrants in the Missoula community.
