BOZEMAN, Mont. – Former President Trump made headlines with his speech in Bozeman on Friday evening, focusing on educational policies and expressing his plans for significant changes if reelected.
“On day one, I will sign a new executive order to cut federal funding for any school promoting critical race theory, transgender issues, or other inappropriate content for our children,” Trump stated. He also declared, “I will withhold funding from any school with a vaccine or mask mandate.”
Trump’s speech resonated with the audience, particularly on the topic of transgender participation in sports, with strong opposition to men competing in women’s sports drawing cheers.
NonStop Local’s Bradley Warren and political analyst Mike Dennison discussed the feasibility of Trump’s promises, highlighting the need for congressional action to cut federal funding and the limited impact federal funding has on school budgets.
Concerns were raised regarding Trump’s opposition to vaccine mandates, with Warren questioning the practicality of penalizing schools that require vaccinations for diseases like measles, mumps, and whooping cough, commonly needed for public school entry.
Critical Race Theory (CRT) was also addressed, with Dennison and Warren noting its limited presence in Montana’s education system, influenced by Montana Superintendent of Public Instruction, Elsie Arntzen’s stance against CRT inclusion.
Trump’s speech highlighted ongoing debates in education and public health policies.
