HELENA — Lewis and Clark County Sheriff/Coroner Leo Dutton has announced the identification of one of the victims of a plane crash west of Augusta.
The victim has been identified as 44-year-old Donald Long from Bend, Oregon.
The cause and manner of death will be officially determined at a later date by the medical examiner. The other two victims are still being identified through DNA testing.
The wreckage of a Cessna 182 plane crash was found in the Scapegoat Wilderness near Crown Mountain on Aug. 8, 2024.
Three bodies were recovered from the crash site and taken to the State Crime Lab in Missoula for autopsy.
Dutton stated that the plane was en route from Pullman, WA, to Great Falls when it disappeared from radar.
Two individuals near the crash site reported the incident, leading to the investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board to determine the cause of the crash.
