Tensions between Iran and Israel are escalating after the assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.
Iran has dismissed calls from European countries to avoid retaliation and has accused Israel of being responsible for Haniyeh’s death.
Furthermore, Iran has announced that it will not participate in renewed ceasefire discussions between Hamas and Israel.
White House officials have suggested that Iran may take action against Israel this week.
If such attacks occur, Israel has various defense systems in place:
- The Iron Dome system targets short-range rockets and missiles, boasting a success rate of around 90%.
- For medium to long-range threats, Israel relies on the David’s Sling system, developed in partnership with the U.S., to intercept ballistic and cruise missiles from Iran.
- Against even longer-range missiles, Israel utilizes the Arrow system, also developed with U.S. cooperation, to target threats beyond the Earth’s atmosphere without the need for explosives.
In the event of a major Iranian assault, Israel would also receive assistance from the U.S. to defend against drones and missiles.
Despite these defenses, there are concerns that a significant attack could overwhelm Israel’s capabilities, resulting in casualties and potentially sparking a wider conflict.
