A government agency in Spain is currently investigating Katy Perry’s latest music video, citing that the production company did not have proper clearance to film on location.
The Ministry of Agriculture for the Balearic Islands released a statement on Tuesday, alleging that Perry’s “Lifetimes” music video was shot at Ses Salines Natural Park, located between Ibiza and Formentera, without the necessary permits.
While the agency clarified that this is not an environmental offense, filming in the area without authorization is strictly prohibited. The potential consequences of this violation remain uncertain.
In the video, Perry can be seen riding a motorcycle, enjoying the beach, and performing at a nightclub. “Lifetimes” serves as the second single from her upcoming album, “143.”
The production company, We Own the City, has not responded to requests for comment regarding the allegations.
Perry’s upcoming album has already faced scrutiny following the release of her first single, “Woman’s World.” Produced by Dr. Luke, who was previously sued by Kesha for sexual assault and other offenses in 2014, the song’s feminist themes have drawn attention to the controversy surrounding the producer.
Despite Dr. Luke’s defamation countersuit and subsequent settlement with Kesha, the juxtaposition of the song’s message with his past actions has not gone unnoticed by Perry’s audience.
