According to a report from ESPN on Thursday, the Dallas Cowboys have signed former New York Jets defensive end Carl Lawson. The 29-year-old pass rusher recently worked out for the Cowboys in Oxnard, Calif., following Sam Williams’ torn ACL injury during training camp. Lawson had signed a three-year, $45 million contract with the Jets in 2021 but missed the entire season due to a torn Achilles tendon.
In the 2022 season, Lawson started all 17 games, recording seven sacks and 24 quarterback hits. However, in the following season, he only played six games with no starts due to rotation issues and a back injury, finishing with no sacks and five tackles. With 27 sacks, 107 QB hits, and 119 tackles in his career, Lawson was a fourth-round pick by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2017 before joining the Jets from 2022 to 2023.
This week, the Cowboys have made two moves on the defensive line, with the acquisition of defensive tackle Jordan Phillips from a trade with the New York Giants on Wednesday. –Field Level Media
