Delegations delivered remarks and cast their votes for Harris and Walz as a DJ played a mashup of songs. The roll call began with Alabama and a nod to President Joe Biden’s home state of Delaware. Rapper Lil Jon entertained the crowd by performing his hit single “Turn Down For What” while introducing the Georgia delegates.
New York’s roll call featured American film director Spike Lee and Gov. Kathy Hochul pledging support for Harris and Walz. Well-known Democratic figures like Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, Pennsylvania Gov. Andy Shapiro, Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, and Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker also made appearances during the event.
The roll call ended with California, represented by Gov. Gavin Newsom and U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi. Harris was not physically present as she was holding a rally in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but she addressed the delegates virtually, emphasizing the importance of a future-focused vision for the nation.
“This is not just about us versus Donald Trump, this is about two very different visions for our nation,” Harris said. “One, ours, focused on the future. The other focused on the past. And Wisconsin, we fight for the future.”
