Vice President Kamala Harris expressed her gratitude to the delegates who voted for her and Tim Walz to represent the Democratic presidential ticket at the Democratic National Convention. The ceremonial roll call, which featured rapper Lil Jon, showcased the enthusiasm of all delegations as they cast their votes virtually.
Traditionally held in person, this year’s nominations took place virtually, with each delegation delivering remarks and supporting Harris and Walz as the Democratic nominees. The roll call began with Alabama throwing to President Joe Biden’s home state of Delaware, symbolizing his legacy and commitment to the party’s future.
Lil Jon energized the crowd by performing “Turn Down For What” while introducing the Georgia delegates. New York’s roll call included Spike Lee and Gov. Kathy Hochul endorsing Harris and Walz. Well-known Democratic figures like Gov. Andy Beshear, Gov. Andy Shapiro, Sen. Amy Klobuchar, and Gov. J.B. Pritzker were also present.
The event concluded with California pledging their support, with Gov. Gavin Newsom and U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi representing Harris’ home state. Despite her absence, Harris addressed the delegates virtually, emphasizing the importance of fighting for a future-focused vision for the nation.
“This is not just about us versus Donald Trump, this is about two very different visions for our nation,” Harris proclaimed. “One, ours, focused on the future. The other focused on the past. And Wisconsin, we fight for the future.”
